The objective of the Australian Funeral Directors Association (AFDA) is to promote professional funeral standards, provide industry leadership and to negotiate with key industry stakeholders on Members’ behalf. Alpar was founded in 1988 at the “Latin American Convention of Cemeteries and Funeral Homes”, held in Cartagena, Colombia, where representatives of companies from all segments of the funeral sector and from different Latin American countries participated. These representatives saw the need and importance to have an organization that would reflect the purpose of integration, collaboration, improvement, honest competition and efficiency of services provided by the funeral sector in Latin America.
In a Latin America where countries very similar in their political and religious views there was no organization that addressed the funeral industry, its culture, rites and rituals. It is here where ALPAR found a void that needed to be filled and began to develop programs specialized for all aspects of the funeral sector, such as seminars, conferences, conventions and expositions, to which these two aspects are brought together in a fundamental way.
